Oncologist Visit – 5/4/26

Matt had a scheduled appointment with his oncologist today. The main purpose was to see if he would be able to receive his regularly scheduled chemotherapy. This treatment is a 21 day cycle treatment where he receives chemotherapy in clinic for 3 hours a day M-F for one week then is off for 2 weeks.

In order to receive treatment his white blood cells and platelets have to be at a certain level. Unfortunately his platelets were too low to receive treatment. He will have this week off and we will try again next Monday to see if his blood counts are good. Most likely they will be since he just missed the cutoff.

In the meantime he can rest and let his body recover. He did get a hemoglobin infusion while at the office. He had been feeling tired lately which sometimes is an indication of low blood levels. The extra infusion of hemoglobin will hopefully give him a little more energy this week.

Overall he is feeling better than last week when his white blood cells got very low due to chemotherapy treatment. Different pains and such surface when white blood cells get too low. We usually give him a daily shot (to stimulate white blood cell production) for a few days following chemotherapy to boost the levels, but it’s sometimes slow to get through his body.
