Oncologist Visit – Counts Go Up And Pain Goes Down

Just a quick post here as a follow up from the last one. In the last post I had mentioned the pains Matt was experiencing as he waited for some relief. Well relief started to show up sometime late afternoon Saturday.

A lot of the pain he was feeling was starting to go away. He was able to move around and finally get a good night sleep. As of this writing he’s moving around pretty well. We assumed it was due to the shot finally kicking in and giving him the white blood cell boost he needed. We had no way of really knowing since the only way to know is to have a blood draw.

Matt did end up getting a blood draw at his oncologist appointment yesterday and his ANC count boosted up to 1095. If you recall it was a 0 just four days earlier. It’s just unfortunate that it takes several days for it to take effect. Though we did give him a muscle relaxer which may have helped in the interim and will keep that in mind for the future. Matt’s platelets also got knocked down again. He had received 2 units on Friday, but at the oncologist visit yesterday the results showed they were low again. Matt was sent to his usual room at the infusion center and received 2 more units of platelets.

To finish off the week, Matt has a PET/CT scan tomorrow followed by an MRI on Friday. These are usually early and long days. His oncologist also wants him to stop by before the scans tomorrow to check blood levels again in case he needs to come back after the scans to get more blood.

Thank you John for the updates. We are all praying for good counts and good response to the future treatments.

Give our love and encouragement to Matt, Jan and Steven as well. Hang in there Lopilato’s and as always, let us know if there’s anything we can do to help.
