Treatment Updates

Radiation Mapping – 5/6/2026

Today Matt had an appointment with his radiologist to get a mapping of the sacrum area that will receive radiation treatment in a few weeks. It’s a process he has had done several times and is usually one of the first steps when getting radiation.

Before treatment begins, a plan is mapped out. This is generally done using a CT simulation machine. The CT simulation will produce a scan to plan the angles and shapes of the radiation beams for treatment. These plans are designed by highly educated medical wizards in a back room somewhere who carefully plan and calculate the proper radiation dose for each treatment.

Simulation often takes 30-45 minutes. During the process the staff will use the MRI and CT scans which were done a few weeks ago to pinpoint the exact treatment area to target during radiation therapy.

Since Matt has had radiation done before in this general area, they need to be extra careful not to over-radiate any places which may have received radiation before.

We’re not sure yet when radiation will begin. He’ll also have to have radiation done to the lung area so he’ll need to get another mapping down the road for that.
